The development of pipes in polymer concrete dates back to the early 1960’s, however the technology had not developed significantly until recent years with the advancement in thermoplastic polymer resins. Consisting of up to 90 quartz tic, oven dried fillers, including mineral sands and grit with a grading curve of 0 to 16mm, with polyester resin as a bonding agent. Cement is not used; instead the polyester resin brings about the bonding between the fillers after curing and gives the pipes the additional positive properties of elasticity and resistance to fracture and chemic attack. Polyester resins, used as thermosetting bonding agents, are according to the requirements for the chemical resistance of the effluent to be transported. Al Watani has been involved in the manufacture of polymer resin based products for over 20 years and has an enviable reputation within the region for its innovative approach to new technology and manufacturing processes.
